Mozambique is a thriving, beautiful and popular destination, and is fast becoming a destination of choice for adventure seekers, romantic couples and even families. Here we look at the top ten reasons you should come to the island for a Mozambique holiday.

    1. Snorkelling with whale sharks in Tofu Bay

Mozambique is known for its unique and thriving marine life, not to mention its beautiful setting. Here you can enjoy the amazing experience of snorkelling with whale sharks, a memorable experience of note. And one of the best places to do this is Tofu Bay. Tofu Bay is accessed from Inhambabe either by dhow or motorboat from the town of Maxixe. This beautiful stretch of golden sand dunes and crystal clear waters provides the perfect setting for your unique experience. Tofu Bay boasts stunning reefs which give visitors the opportunity to snorkel with whale sharks and mantas.

    2. Microlight flights

Those with nerves of steel and a penchant for heights should not miss a microlight flight during a  Mozambique holiday. This thrilling experience takes you higher than anything thing else, except maybe an eagle. Exploring the region from the vantage point of a microlight is indeed a memorable experience. Zoom by and indulge in the blurry colours and shapes below, then fly lower looking for interesting places to explore.

    3. Big game fishing

With its expansive beaches, Mozambique and its surrounding islands are the perfect places to indulge in some big game fishing. Actually, no Mozambique holiday would be complete without big game fishing on the menu. The area has an abundance of marine species, leaving the avid fisherman spoilt for choice.

    4. Swim with dolphins

Swimming in the calm blue waves of Ponta da Oura are friendly and playful dolphins. Enjoy the experience of swimming side by side this amazing creature – known as the friendliest creatures of the ocean. Experience the sheer tranquility of gliding with these majestic creatures beneath the sublime waters of the Indian Ocean.

    5. Tour the island from a dhow

Discover one of the truly unique Africans traditions along the mesmerising waters of Mozambique from a dhow. Set off in the early morning and discover the tranquil islands of the area, including the Benguerra, Bazaruto, Banque and Paradise Island. This sailing trip is unique in that the dhow is hand crafted and has been part of the Mozambique tradition for hundreds of years. These dhows are used by locals for both fishing purposes and to explore the beautiful area.

    6. Explore on a 4 wheel quad bike

While a quad bike may not be the ideal form of transport for exploration, in Mozambique anything is possible. For the more adventurous at heart, this quad bike experience takes you on guided tours full of mystery, intrigue and wonder. Mozambique offers the perfect setting for such an adventure – clear skies, beautiful scenery and friendly locals.

    7. Elephant interaction at Maputo Elephant Reserve

Pay a visit to the largest land mammal in the world during a Mozambique holiday. Maputo Elephant Reserve is located off the beaten track and is an unspoiled, vast and rugged area of great beauty. Ideal for 4×4 vehicles, enjoy a unique safari experience in Mozambique and view elephants in their natural habitat.

    8. Take in the culture of Mozambique at The National Art Museum

Mozambique offers a fascinating, if not jaded history, and you will be able to discover it at the National Art Museum. From its humble beginnings as a port of call for Chinese and Persian traders, through the days of Portuguese colonialism, the history of Mozambique is as fascinating as it is poignant.

    9. Horse riding on the beach

Imagine strolling on the beach with a loved one – African sun setting on the horizon. Now imagine doing this on the back of a majestic horse in one of the most romantic and beautiful destinations in the world. Horse riding on the beaches of Mozambique is as adventurous as it is romantic. All horses are well disciplined and are professionally managed at all times, so novice riders should not worry. Custom made horse safaris are also available, and offers a unique way to discover the area.

    10. Browse the central market in Maputo

Maputo was once simply a stop over on the way to the more popular islands of Mozambique. This, however, has changed, with Maputo becoming a thriving tourist destination in its own right. With business booming, one can only expect a bustling and interactive experience in the capital city of Mozambique. At the heart of this bustling city you will find the central market.  This market offers everything a visitor would want – fresh fruit, veggies, curios, and anything else in between. Enjoy the culture of the city and mingle with the locals going about their daily business.
