9 Signs You Should Be A Teacher

Teachers play an important role in the world. They’re knowledge bearers, and it’s not surprising that there’s a constant need for them. As of 2020/21, there were nearly 636,327 teachers in the United Kingdom and almost 3.6 million in the U.S. Yet, the educational sector in both countries still has a huge demand for teachers. Therefore, your dream to become a teacher is more than valid and requires all the effort you might need to put in. If you’re still not sure if teaching is right for you, here are nine signs you’ll do well in the field.

    • You’re Optimistic

The teacher’s role revolves around building positive attitudes and reforming young people to become better versions of themselves. For this reason, teachers need to be optimistic about their students’ future to consistently encourage them in their progress. You also need to be a staunch believer in what young people can become and actively help them to obtain those life skills to reach their goals.

No doubt, students will have different characters depending on their backgrounds. However, dealing with students and their different personalities is no easy task and sending unhelpful instructions to students can be dangerous to their reformation. So, teachers need an appreciable knowledge of all backgrounds to better understand the best approach to take and always believe that a student can improve.

    • You Have The Skills

Teachers can become better at their job through training. You may have the dream, but the training is necessary for your employability. Some employers may require a specific level before inviting you through their door. Luckily, enrolling in a teacher training course today has become easier with education going online. You can get an MA education online from the comfort of your home and even practice your profession remotely.

    • You’re Patient

Patience is a virtue. For teachers, it’s non-negotiable, regardless of the level you teach. Teachers are the targets of a lot of impatient conversations. You will need to talk to a school’s administration about being strict, pushover parents, or difficult students.

A teacher’s job is to weather the storm from everyone and find a compromise. Therefore, the last person to lose their patience in the room should be you, the teacher. You’ll be up to the task if you look at things beyond the immediate reaction you get from the stakeholders in your daily work.

    • You’re A Motivator

Young people of today don’t have it easy. Society’s pressure can reduce your students’ level of esteem and confidence, affecting their capabilities and efficiencies. These pressures come from all angles, including parents, peers, and school administration.

Your job as a teacher goes beyond distributing academic instructions. If you want to be a teacher, you need to ensure you’re in touch with these realities, leveraging them to motivate younger people. Motivation doesn’t only go to students.

As a teacher, you also need to be self-motivated. Teachers face pressure from school boards to produce results. You can be certain that you’ll receive a lot of backlashes to get your students to perform. Therefore, one sign that you’re able to be a teacher self-motivation.

    • You Love Growth

Education is one of the fast-evolving sectors worldwide and the teaching sector has become very competitive. The people winning the race have become more tech-savvy and future-oriented. This means that teachers are no longer teaching what they have only learned. They’re also researching new learning tools and introducing them to students.

As a teacher, you need to be more in tune with these trending pedagogical strategies and new tech tools. Combining these resources with up-to-date teaching techniques will keep you ahead of the game. The ultimate aim is to guide students and help them identify their own solutions.

    • You’re Organized

Self-organisation is a crucial skill for the teacher. The daily role of an average teacher can be frustrating to deal with. It involves preparing lesson plans, ushering your students into the day, and reporting on specific key performance indicators, among many other tasks. You have little chance of managing these tasks effectively if you’re not organised.

    • Adore The Innovation Of Young People

The basic difference between students and adults is experience. Many of these young people go through the day creating the best outputs from ideas that don’t conform to traditional senses.

They only want to be sure that their creative ideas won’t be criticised or judged badly.

It’s the teacher’s role to create an enabling environment that keeps their creativity and innovation in schools going. You could be a good teacher if you’re a staunch believer in students learning from mistakes and creating their own paths.

    • You Want To Make A Lifelong Impact

Teachers are influencers. The lives of countless students are on the line if you don’t deliver. You should consider venturing into teaching if you’re intrigued about the next generation’s future.

That’s not to say other professions aren’t making their contribution to the future. However, the world relies on teachers to spread the knowledge pool. Therefore, you’ll be taking a big step toward your dream to make a lifelong impact on the world if you become a teacher.

    • You Believe In The Right To Education

All students have a right to education. As a teacher passionate about your job, this might not appear just as a statement to you. Because the world still has over 200 million children of school-going age worldwide not attending school.

Why? Several factors contribute to this alarming situation, including financing, political will, and the sheer lack of teaching and learning materials, among others. Turning things around involves a lot of work and time to actualise.

This fight can be your fight if you believe in getting social justice and getting children where they rightfully belong in the classroom. This should be an exciting challenge for you if you find yourself advocating for equitable distribution of education resources worldwide and are even considering volunteering to practice the profession in remote areas.

Generally, education is a hotspot for endless possibilities. These signs can help you build yourself towards achieving your teacher’s dream.
