Outdoor furniture should be treated the same way as regular indoor furniture, if not more. Because this furniture is subjected to the natural elements of the outdoors, here are some tips you can use to keep it looking cleaner and lasting longer:

    1. Use a broom to sweep the dust and dirt off the fabric or out of the weaves of your furniture. Be gentle so as to not damage the fabric. If you are brushing bamboo, brush in the direction of the weave.

    2. Be careful if you find any insects or nests on your outdoor furniture, especially if you are unsure about what kind of insect it is.

    3. Use mild detergents and stay away from harsh chemicals to remove dirt. Harsh chemicals have been known to cause irreparable damage to weaker materials. Visit your local hardware store for a range of good products that are natural and safe to use.

    4. Try to avoid scouring pads as they can damage most materials. They will scratch the surface, making it possible for more dirt to build up.

    5. Use a thin coat of car wash to polish and protect metal and plastic furniture.

    6. Use a soft, textured cloth for scrubbing and avoid sponges. The texture of the cloth assists in trapping the dirt, while the soft cloth material will clean and protect the surface. Sponges tend to smear the dirty muck around, meaning more effort and elbow grease on your part.

    7. Wear thick, rubber gloves when cleaning your outdoor furniture to prevent splinters of wood, metal and paint when scrubbing. Also, it keeps your hands safe from cleaning solutions.

    8. Use wooden cleaning soaps on wooden furniture. This soap not only cleans your outdoor furniture, but protects it as well, helping it last longer.

    9. Use paper towels or soft, dry rags to dry furniture. This prevents spots and leftover dirt smears.

    10. Consider restoration on painted metal furniture. When rust develops or when bubbles appear under the paint it may be time to have your furniture restored before it becomes worse.

Remember to clean your outdoor furniture on a regular basis. This will help it last longer and provide you with endless days of outdoor comfort, relaxation and comfort.
